Over the summer while at Hendersonville, North Carolina, Michael and I met Mickey Marvin. He played with the Raiders 1977-1988 and has TWO Superbowl rings!!! He is a big man (made Michael look small!) but yet a big teddy bear! He's a Christian man and while is still a Scouter for the Raiders he also speaks and shares his faith in an awesome way!! We had the privilage of eating lunch with him and got some pictures!

Thank you for the comment (would like to know who you are though!)...things are going VERY well - actually after I wrote that blog - it seemed to start going uphill!!! I had to work tonight and I decided to let Braden wear underwear there (originally I was going to do diapers when we went out) and he peed in his pants 2 times....although both times we went straight to the bathroom and he peed more - so I think he's getting the hang of holding it once it starts! I told him that he was running out of the clothes and underwear I had brought him. Then we were playing and all of a sudden he runs to the bathroom saying "I have to go pee!!!" - I mean he TOOK OFF - I was thinking - 'wait - you can't get your pants down by yourself (button and zipper) and I need to help you up on the potty here!' He barely looked back - he was on a mission! We got there and sure enough he peed...although some got on his clothes instead of in the potty. He looked at me and said, "did I run out of clothes?" I told him "no". But then it hit me - he DOES NOT like to go naked and at home when he had accidents on all the underwear that we have I told him he would have to go naked - so I think he thought he was going to go naked and he'd better get to the potty on time! Neat how their little minds work!! Anyway - HUGE improvement from 2 days ago. Oh - I also put his potty chair in the van in case he needed it from the house to work - and he did use it before we went in to work! I'm so very happy for him! It's a huge accomplishment in such a short time!

POTTYING WOES.....HELP!!!

Braden is 3 now and it is time (for us) to start pushing pottying in the potty!!! Many feel it should have started before now...but I was told by many moms of boys that it will just happen when they're ready - not to push it...so I didn't. Then when I was pregnant with Brailey I was told not to do it because he might regress when she came and had diapers on - he would want diapers on too! So - I didn't even try for those 9 months! Now school is starting back next week and Braden will not be moving up with the other 3 yr. olds because he is not potty-trained. I'm fine with that for the fact that I don't want to push - but I feel he is old enough to start trying! Monday we had a good day - he went 2 times on the potty and the rest on the floor!!! I was so excited when he went in the potty and he was too - when he was done he was mad and said he wanted to do more. I explained he would have to wait until he had more pee! Well the next day he wouldn't go on the potty at all. I would have him sitting there for nearly 20 min. and then I would finally let him off only to find him pee on the floor in the next 5 minutes! I was so mad! I'm sure I didn't react properly many of the times and had to later go and talk to him that it was ok and he would get it! I was just upset because I had asked him many times if he had to go and he said "no" and then went on the floor!! Today he upset and saying he does not WANT to pee in the potty. As I'm writing this he called me in to show me he had peed a little in the potty. We were both so excited!!! We shall see how the rest of the day goes. ANY advice would be helpful! I've NEVER potty-trained before - so POOR BRADEN...and poor me!!!

Michael is very busy in the summer...usually gone the whole summer! Well we usually go with him to all the camps and anything else. This summer we did go with him to everything except the Bahamas Missions Trip....it was a long week for Braden who asked where Daddy was nearly everyday! So when Daddy got home - we found a way to take the kids next time - now if there was only a suitcase big enough for me!!!

Now where will Michael put his clothes??? Guess he won't be talking very many!

I got Brailey out and we stood in the water. I wanted to see what she would do - she didn't seem to care at all - seemed she liked it! Braden screams bloody murder when we go under a mist of water!!! Now Brailey may end up that way because if memory serves me correctly Braden liked the water when he was this little too....we shall see!!!

Well we've been gone for a whole month and it has flown by!!! I will have to post pictures of all our camps - but I might start backwards since that is fresh on my mind. The first 3 weeks were our district Church Camps - but the last week was a good ol'e fashion camp meeting in North Carolina. A friend of ours is the President of this camp and he asked Michael to work with the teens during the week. There aren't many camps like this anymore - it was wonderful! It truly reminded me of a camp the Mershimer's took us to when we were teenagers. Just a good holiness campground with good holiness preaching! It was wonderful to not have any responsibilites during the services so we could just relax and let God speak to us! Of course we had our children with us and that gives a whole new meaning to relax - but it was still good!!!

Anyway - here are some pictures of last week in Hendersonville, North Carolina!!

Braden doesn't usually climb on things like this...he's very cautious about everything - doesn't even like many slides...so I had to take this because he thought about it - mostly because his little girlfriend that he met there was all over it so he thought he could do - but only made it this far and climbed back down! I guess that's a start!!!

Braden spent a lot of time on this merry-go-round! Loved it! There was a little boy pushing him and was trying not to push too fast and Braden started yelling "faster!!!"...not so nicely!

This was a HUGE bug the kids found on the playground. They were flipping out so I had to go check it out and I must say - I'm glad it was on the playground and not in our dorms!!!

This is Braden in our rustic dorms! We had a "family wing" so we had a refrigerator, table, 4 showers, 3 bathrooms and 6 bunkbeds all to ourselves! Of course it was a dorm I think I mentioned!!! We pushed 3 bunkbeds together so we could all sleep together which made it cozy. Well despite the conditions we still found a way to bring technology to us...here's Braden watching a movie during afternoon free time while Brailey was still asleep!

Ok - we had just watched National Treasure 2 and the part where they are balancing themselves on the square reminded me of these squares. As we would walk on them it would rock back and forth so I said "this is like National Treasure" so Braden called them that all week. He would sometimes say "I don't want to walk on National Treasure!" It was funny!

Just to keep you all up to speed that check out my blog...we've been out of town most of the summer due to church camps. I've come home Friday mornings in time to unload the car and head to work Friday night and then get up Saturday morning to work, go to church on Sunday and leave for another camp Sunday night. It's been fun but crazy. Once I get done traveling I will add pictures of all we've done. Monday morning we leave for another camp in North Carolina! Some days I have to think about where I am.......right now...at my computer!!

When we got home from church Braden wanted his Bible. We saw that he had put Brailey's Bible in her pack-n-play and was reading to her out of his! (Brailey responded by lifting her shirt!!!)

The day started out with biscuits, gravy, eggs and bacon with orange juice for the birthday boy!!

Then on to putt-putt! Notice his shirt....I was going to embroider a 3 on a t-shirt for him and ran out of time so I picked another outfit out...well he didn't want my outfit...he picked this and I just happened to notice it had a 3 on it!!!!

Then Braden wanted to go to CiCi's for pizza....so we stuffed our faces full of pizza and cinnamon rolls!!!
It was a GREAT day! The only time when Brailey and Braden turned 3 in the same month!!!

Michael has always joked that Braden is our retirement - well this week - he kind of opened my eyes. He asked me to throw the ball to him (in the house!!) and I did and he hit it!! I'm not so sure a 3 year old is "supposed" to be able to do that - they start out in T-ball - hitting off the T - but he is hitting w/o that! He's doing so good - we are so excited!!!

Wow...I don't usually write on here - but some funny things have come out of Braden's mouth in the last few days - and I thought - well - these are the things to add to my blog!!!

First the background....

A couple of weeks ago I started teaching Braden "Holy, Holy, Holy". We would sing, "Holy, Holy, Holy, Merciful and Mighty, God in 3 Persons, Blessed Trinity". That is about all he has memorized (although it's worrying me at this point that he has no tune!) Anyway - I would sing "Holy, Holy, Holy, Merciful and....." hoping he would finish it - well once in a while he would!

Now.....
Everyone in the south likes to say "bless her heart!" - actually it drives me nuts - but I said it sarcastically one night in the car while Brailey was screaming! Braden started to repeat it and it was really cute coming from him! So the other night he asked to sing "Holy, Holy, Holy" - so we started and he was doing really well - we got to "Blessed........" and I waited for him to say "Trinity" and he said "Bless her little heart!" He was so serious it was hilarious! I started laughing at first and realized he didn't do it to be funny - that is what came to his mind!!!

And then last night while I was getting things ready to head out the door for church Braden got his Bible and started flipping through the pages. He said, "Mom - this page says, 'you got to go to Jesus'". I was like "wow - that's awesome"! A little preaching moment from an "almost 3 year old!" Then he kept flipping and acting like he was reading, "He got off the cross, and the tomb rolled away and He went to heaven!" It is so awesome to here him talk about what he has learned about Jesus! It sounds so sweet to me....but imagine how that sounds to our Father's ears! Children really are a blessing from the Lord!

Brailey got her ears pierced today!!! I've always thought little babies with earrings were soooooo cute - so when we knew we were having a little girl that was my plan! So today we had it done! The Titans Caravan game to the YMCA today. Braden was soooooo excited about this when we found out 2 weeks ago - and even when we drove to the Y that morning. Michael took Braden to an Orange and White game in Knoxville today. It started out all four of us going - but then the weather wasn't supposed to be so nice so I stayed home with Brailey. Well for most of the day Michael and Braden had a beautiful day (even got a little sun!). Michael is a HUGE Tennesse Vol fan is excited that Braden is loving football and will one day be one too!!! They had a great time!

The first time he wanted to pour water on her and was doing good, started at the feet and then legs, belly and before I could stop him - right over her face!!! Needless to say - she didn't like that! Wiggle Time

Braden has had a hard time since we went to the hospital to have Brailey. We had never left him overnight before so when we came home he didn't want to leave either one of our sides! Well - when it came time to go back to school - which was a while after Brailey was born because of snow days and then spring break - so when it came time we promised him that if he had a good day we would take him to this place called Wiggle Time. Well - he cried a little - but all in all a good day and so off to Wiggle Time we went! It was fun!!!

My sister Jeanie came to visit Brailey.

Michael's mom came and helped us out during the birth of Brailey. It had been a long time since she had taken care of a 2 1/2 yr old!!! I think they were both wore out by the time she left!

One of my best friends Sue, from PA came down on a school trip with her son to Nashville. We were able to go and hang out with her for a short time and let her see Braden and Brailey. Braden just loves getting his picture taken!!!

We finally got a "good" snow!!! Growing up in Pennsylvania this would not measure up as a "good" snow....but being as I've lived in TN (where school is closed if there is the slight rumor snow is coming!!!!) for the past 7 1/2 yrs....and this is the most snow I've seen...it's a GOOD snow!!!

Michael took one of our teenagers and Braden to a game in Memphis. The Memphis Grizzlies vs. Pheonix. Braden got to see "some" of the game - after the 5 hour drive and a short nap he slept through most of the game!

Brailey Reneey Mayfield was born on February 14th at 7:55 am. She was 8lbs. 7 oz. and 20 1/4 in. We had a rough start - with me having near pnemonia and then spinal headaches which put me back into a surgical center to have a procedure done called a blood patch. They took blood out of my arm and put it back into my back - epirdural style - to patch the hole left from the spinal. I guess when I would stand up brain fluid was leaking out of the hole and causing horrible headaches that would only go away when I would lay down. PRAISE GOD all is well now and I can enjoy this beautiful little girl that God has given our family! Enjoy!!

Braden in his PJ's almost ready for bed....still trying to get some playtime in! Still playing........ and playing....... FINALLY....getting some ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz's! A friend gave Braden and Michael a ride around the campground. Braden had a blast and CRIED when he had to get off! We took a canoe ride. Braden enjoyed this....so much he fell asleep througout most of it!!! Michael resting from rowing...being as I am pregnant and due to some issues at the beginning of the pregnancy - he didn't want me rowing - so he had to do it all!! Poor guy!! I had to get my face in the picture!!!

Well - second year with Santa - and Braden still doesn't like him very much!!! But this year Santa - who must have been a Santa for a VERY LONG time - suggested that Daddy hold him and when I was ready with the camera he ran around and posed and the outcome was a great picture - that Braden was totally unaware of!!!

Braden's first "writing on the wall". At least it was crayon and not markers - which he doesn't use yet!!! He was showing me this and knew he got in trouble for it - and he was also trying to scrap it off with his fingernail.

Well - the time had come for Braden to get a "real" haircut. I had "tried" but it was crooked so I thought I'd better go see how the professionals do it!! I don't know that I learned much - because she had a hard time for the same reason I did - you can't keep a one year old from moving - especially when you're messing with their head!!! HA!

Braden got this seat for Christmas and is just now learning to relax in it! I took these this morning while he was watching Sesame Street. He has it made - his sippy cup on his right and his goldfish on his left!!! What a life!!!

Starting him out young!!! He's watched his daddy do this a lot so he's a pro!! Although I think I have a little boy that doesn't like to get dirty!! The grass was still wet from overnight and he fell in the grass and sat there like he didn't want to touch the wet grass to get up!! He waited for me to help him up!!! Good or bad?!?!? I don't know! I will post more pictures - but it's not coorperating with me today - UGH!!!

We had a special program at our church where a man who looked A LOT like Abe Lincoln came and spoke for the 4th of July! It was really neat. Here is me and Braden getting our picture with him - Braden apparently didn't like the whole dead man walking thing!! HA! Also a picture of our pastors with him. They didn't seem to mind!! HA! Also - a cute picture of Braden after our God and Country celebration fireworks and fun - was just too much to handle....for all of us....however our wagon will only fit him!! HA!

We finally had Braden dedicated the day after he turned ONE!!! We were waiting until my parents could come down from PA - which didn't happen until his 1st b-day! It was a beautiful ceremony. This is us with Pastor Kevin!

We got this piano at one of our church yard sales. I waited to put the seat on it until Braden was walking. Until then he could play the piano on the floor. Well - I put it all together and was surprised when he taught himself to sit on the seat properly! He seemed pretty proud of himself too! Also - we will say, "Play the music" and he'll go over and hit a key!

WOW - it has been a year already! I can't believe it!! Braden has accomplished soooooo much in such a short time. He went from a helpless baby to now walking idependently around the house! It's great! He is such a blessing!

My first official "real" accident. I say "real" because I spun off the road last year on a rainy day and landed (missing a telephone pole - God is GOOD!) in someone's driveway. When Michael arrived he asked if I had moved the car and I told him, "I haven't - this is where I landed." He was shocked. But this accident was "real" in that I do believe the car was totalled and I landed in a ditch. I was in the turning lane when a lady came over two lanes of traffic and hit me on the right passenger tire. We found out later that the tire was horizontal - which explains why I lost my brakes - and the car kept going and ended up in a ditch. I will stop to say that I again missed a huge pole that holds those electronic signs. God is GOOD! Once I landed in the ditch the airbags deployed and I noticed the windshield was cracked and I saw smoke. My 10 week old, Braden, had been asleep until the hit and he was now crying. That scared me. I immediately got out and grabbed the carseat and went up the hill to sit down. Braden was fine - as was I - just a little shaken thinking of what could've happened to him. Michael arrived on the scene about 15 minutes later and took us to the Emergancy Room and we both checked out fine. Again - God is Good! I ended up with minor burns on my face from the airbag and a chipped tooth. Both can be taken care of! It is amazing how God can be there for us as we're just driving down the road on our way home on a typical day. Life could've been changed (more than it already is) drastically that day. Braden could've been hurt or killed as well as myself hurt badly. I had just left friends at work 30 minutes prior to the accident. You just never know when someone you are talking to one minute can be gone the next. Thank You God for allowing us more time with our loved ones! God, You are AWESOME!

Life in Tennessee has been interesting over the past 4 1/2 years. There is a lot of life lived in that time which lands me to the present - being a mommy to Braden! Michael and I got married in December of 2000. We met at Hobe Sound Bible College in 1993. We dated on and off during my 2 years there. After 2 years I moved back to Pennsylvania. We ended up talking again a few years later. While I was a nanny in Virginia I decided to visit him in Tennessee. It was during that trip we discussed getting married and decided to just set a date! Long story short - I moved here and we got married December 16, 2000. Michael is the Youth Pastor at our church. The job in itself has taken us on A LOT of trips. For example: Braden is 10 weeks today and he has been to Indianapolis (for General Assembly), Dollywood (Middle High Youth Camp) and Disney World (Youth Trip). He is definitely a travelling baby - and does well! About Braden: we decided to wait 3 years before starting a family - and the Lord decided for us to wait 4 years. So - along comes Braden. He has changed our lives immensely. He is a wonderful addition to our lives - couldn't imagine life without him - now we can only hope for a sister!!! More on that in a couple of months...........
